In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the New Social Movement, which rose in the developed capitalist countries, and marked with Ecological Movement, Environmental Protection, Peaceful and Anti-war and Feminist promoted the emergence of the Green Party of European countries. Different from the traditional political parties, the Green Party criticized the western traditional model of economic development, political system, values and so on. They advocated transforming the existing economic and social structure completely. And on this basis, they advanced the sustainable development advocates that people should live in harmony with the society. Greens are not purely the nongovernmental organizations of environmental protection and peace, but the party with the ultimate goal of participating in politics, being engaged in politics and holding power. From its inception to now, European Green Party has gone through over 30 years, during this period, it has to timely adjust and innovate its own political agenda and policies in order to seek their own survival and development, and ensure their own political status. This is also an important symbol that the Green Party has grown in strength and increasingly moving towards maturity. After its stable grow in the 1980s, the European Green Party entered a period of deep development since the 1990s, and dramatic changes has taken place in many aspects, such as its position in the political, program policies, organizational structure and principles, tactics of struggle, the international policies and so on. Changes in the European Green Parties brought far-reaching influence on the whole Europe and even all over the world, especially brought a tremendous impact on the system and the pattern of the European political parties.This paper selects the new changes in the European Green Party and its impact on the traditional party politics since the 1990s as the studying object, striving to approach the development trend and the political influence of the European Green Party quite systematically and comprehensively. This article is divided into three parts except the introduction. The first part mainly introduces the connotation of the European Greens briefly, and reviews its historical background and the three historical periods of development and evolution. The second part analyses the changes and the reasons of the European Green Party, the new changes including the political position: from the radical to moderate; the program policy: from ideal to reality; the organizational structure and principles: from spontaneous to conscious, from break to same flow; struggle strategy: from mass protests to participating in politics; international policy: from single to comprehensive; role in Parliament: from opposition party to Parliamentary party. The changes happened in Green Party based on both objective factors and subjective factors, including the change of European social structure and political subject after cold- war, the impact of globalization and the threat of the"greening"exercise of traditional political parties. In addition, there are some defects in the Green Party itself, such as the defects at the organizational line and political line, the long-term struggle within the factions and the too idealistic policies and proposals and so on. The third part analyses the important practical significance of the change of European Green Party from the impact on the traditional party system and pattern, the influence on the ideology of traditional political parties, as well as the inspiration to the Chinese Communist Party. At the end of the paper, there is a summary and conclusion of the main opinion and the content for the full text.
