The Great purge means the event which made use of the machinery of government and law of USSR in order to unlawfullly suppress the leaders of USSR,the old bolsheviks and people of all circles which harboured the so-called different political ideas, according to the theory which emphasized classwarfare more and more in 1930S'.It began from late 1920S'and reached a climax in the three Moscow Trials which astonished the whole world. Many excellent leaders of the state were sentenced to death or permanent imprisonment.Behind the show trials to these public enemies, there existed doings of amending law temporarily, threatening the defendants with the safety of their families, and making inquisitions by torture so as to get perjury. The Trials are a kind of legal activities formally, but unlawful and antihuman activities substantively. The existential philosopher Merleau-Ponty regarded that the Moscow trial was a revolutionary activity rather than a legal activity. He regarded the conception of violence of Marxism were the follows: violence is the starting point of all kinds of regimes; After seizing the power and making it under control, Proletariate have to use violence; violence can be classed into two different kinds, one is revolutionary violence while the other is not,and revolutionary violence accords with humanism. Revolutionary violence is advisable.Meantime there was an holocaust going on in Germany, the violence made all people in Germany living in terror, not just temporary measures against antisocial people/criminals.In the Great purge, the same things happend.Factors which made the tragedy included Stalin's personal characteristic defects, the jurisprudence which predominated in USSR at that time, etc.
