International politics and relationships witnessed great changes after the cold war, and modern socialist countries are facing new international environment, it is a great task for them to reform and adjust their diplomatic policy according to the new situation, so as to create a stable external circumstance. Vietnam, Laos, North Korea and Cuba all undergone changes of different degree, there are many important experiences as well as lessons worthy of research.Because of different international environment and diplomatic goals, the four countries took complex policy adjustments respectively, and this engenders the trouble for comparison. This article chooses the method of comprehensive generalization and separate analysis, its content includes searching the evolvement of diplomatic policy, analyzing the policy's keys and effects, finding the common and special rules, summarizing experiences to benefit Chinese diplomacy. All the four countries had a process of changing from "lean to Soviet Union" to "multiple and peaceful", from "political" to "economic" diplomacy. Referring to the emphasis and characteristic of their policies, all the four stressed the importance of relationship with US, China, Russia, European Union, and neighboring countries, they set different goals, strategies leading to different results. For example, Vietnam and Laos wanted to be reconciled with US, while North Korea opted bargaining for survival, Cuba resorted to fighting against American sanction and blockage. With regards to the effects, Vietnam and Laos got good effect, North Korea and Cuba still face grim situation, and North Korea is the representative one.The value of this article rests with the comprehensive generalization and analysis of the four countries based on the present academic information; it provides a new approach and resources for the further research. The deficiency is the inadequate generalization of the policies' similarities and differences, thus more efforts is needed to achieve the perfection.
