The Analysis Of The Struggle For Transcaucasia Between Russia And The United States

As the important geo-strategic position and delivery channel of oil and gas resources between Central Asia and Caspian Sea region, Transcaucasian region which was called the Eurasian continent by Halford Mackinder, links the center of Europe and Asia continents. For the United States, Transcaucasia is an important part of its global strategy. By controlling the Transcaucasia, the United States can achieve the control of oil and gas resources, contain the development of Russia, China and Iran, and combate international terrorism and other multi-purpose. While for Russia, Transcaucasia is the traditional sphere of influence and strategic interests at stake region, which is the natural barrier to keep security and stability. When the Cold War ended, the struggle between Russia and the United States was becoming so intensified. Especially after Putin came to power, with the growing strength of Russia as a whole, Russia penetrated the Transcaucasian resistance and counterattack against the United States gradually. This paper aims to explore the underlying causes of the fighting game in Transcaucasian between Russia and the United States,and card the process of policy evolution between Russia and the United States in Transcaucasian game, and identify the influence when they struggle in the Transcaucasia, and attempt to predict future development as Russia and the U.S. struggling. This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, which introduced the purpose and significance of topics, domestic and international study trends, researching methods, the question to be solved and the aspect of innovations briefly.In the second part, this paper analyzed the causes of the fighting between Russia and the United States in Transcaucasian region from two angles of unique and valuable geo-strategic value and complex and sensitive situation in the region, and analyzed specially the strategic status of Transcaucasia, at the mean, tried to tease out the deep-rooted factors of struggling between Russia and the United States on Transcaucasia. In the third part, the paper combs the evolution policy on the Transcaucasia between Russia and the United States from three stages: Russia played a leading role in Transcaucasia, and the United States infiltrated limitedly; the United States fighted actively, and the Russia played in the defented phase; Russia strived to restore the traditional influence, but the United States stilled to grasp the initiative stage. Among these parts, this paper carded the policy adjustment and change about Transcaucasia between Russia and the United States, and introduced the impact of Russia-US relations on Transcaucasian hot ports like Naka conflicts, disputes in Abkhazia, South Ossetia conflict problem in detail.In the fourth part, this paper analyzed mainly the impact of fighting between Russia and the United States from three angles:the external impact of relationship between Russia and the United States, the external impact of Transcaucasia and the external impact to the international society.In the fifth part, this paper predicted the development trends of Transcaucasia, and analyzed the respective strengths and weaknesses between Russia and the United States, then predicted the next focus and the developments in fighting about Transcaucasia.
