The Research Of Philanthropy In Modern North China

Chinese society has experienced the dramatic changes in the Millennium from modern times,and the philanthropy in North China faced unprecedented transmutation also. Under the background of the social changes, this paper attempts to give a thorough study of the rising background, the development of evolution, the features of the times and the social influence of modern philanthropy in North China from 1840 to 1949.And it reveals the relationship between the philanthropy and social changes.The full text contains five parts.The first part analyzes the rising background of modern philanthropy in North China, including the location of the North China and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters; the poverty of villages and the living conditions of farmers in North China; the development of modern capitalist industry and commerce and the influence from modern Western thought and practice of philanthropy.The second part gives a periodic inspection on the evolution from traditional philanthropy to modern philanthropy in North China.Then it combs the development of profiles for each stage systematically which regards the traditional charity organizations,the rise of modern Yi Zhen,the formation of the care and education concurrently charitable idea,the institutionalization and legalization of philanthropy as the main content.The third part gives a meticulous inspection on the philanthropy in North China. It is based on the case study which contains Tianjin Guang-Ren Tang,Ding-Wu Disaster,the drought relief of North China in 1920 and the relief activities in Huabei anti-Japanese base areas. The fourth part explores the factors which affect and restrict the development of modern philanthropy in North China.It probes the subtle relationship of the state and society in this field which contains cooperation and confrontation.The fifth part analyzes the main features of modern philanthropy in North China:the unbalanced development; the joint collaboration of charitable organizations; the modernization of management,fund-raising channels,means of transport and communication and so on; the internationalization of the charitable organizations,charitable activities and the relief source. In addition, modern philanthropy in North China has a profound impact on maintaining social stability, promoting modernization of education and improving social customs.The conclusion hopes to provide reference and inspiration for the development of current philanthropy, and it expects to benefit the overall development of current social and cultural.
