Arif Dirlik is one of representative critics of current Western Marxism and post-colonialism. At the same time he is an authoritative scholar on Chinese issue. In the process of criticizing global capitalism hegemony, he continues the discourse and analysis used by classic Marxism for capitalism criticism. His critical idea of"globalization"shows the current turning of traditional Marxism. This paper explores the new development of Dirlik's post-colonialism theory in the context of globalization, analyzes the theory's theme and significance and, furthermore, offers ideological references to contemporary Chinese cultural study.During 1980s~1990s, post-colonialism had taken place of postmodernism and became the most important western literary theory. Later, it is categorized as the thriving cultural study in broad sense. In the time of globalization, post-colonialism is closely related to such issues as globalization/localization and race/cultural identity. This paper mainly deals with the characteristics of post-colonialism criticism in the time of globalization.This paper centers on Dirlik's latest works and argues about the critical theories in them. His current study marks the new turning of post-colonialism in the new time, in other words, it is a kind of post-colonialism criticism in the time of globalization. Many of his theories are closely connected with the issues of globalization and culture we discuss today thus enlightening socialism construction of Chinese characteristics and Chinese culture study.
