College Schools are the bases of cultivating talents, the sources of producing new knowledge and technologies, and the manufactures of converting science research into productivity. With the coming of knowledge based economy, college schools have been reforming the education mode to improve the research ability of college students and meet the requirements of society. The article takes the theory and tools of knowledge sharing into the study on research ability improving. On basis of analyzing the documents and reference tools of knowledge sharing, the study pertinently makes suggestions on knowledge sharing, which include building the commonwealth of learning to improve the research ability of college students. The article is on the basis of investigating about college students'knowledge sharing and research ability, introduces the theory of knowledge sharing and tools according to the current situation and the impact relationships, constructs cultivation mode of students' researching ability, and puts forward the method and way by training.First, through the literature review, net information analysis and interviews with experts, this article sets up a theoretical model of students'researching ability, designs a scale of students' researching ability and knowledge sharing according to the research ability index from research ability scale developed by Meng Wanjin and the knowledge sharing index from literatures, and then the scale is modified and verified by expert consultation, exploratory factor analysis and confirmative factor analysis, reliability and validity test. After such a process, a research ability scale composed of three dimensions and a knowledge sharing scale composed of two dimensions are formed.The research objects are the students of Dalian University of Technology, which includes 503 valid samples. The research results are shown as follows:Firstly, research ability of students in university consists of study ability, innovation ability and practice ability. Secondly, study ability, innovation ability and practice ability are positively related with knowledge providing and knowledge acquiring. Thirdly, knowledge providing and knowledge acquiring has positive influence on study ability, innovation ability and practice ability. knowledge providing and knowledge acquiring has the greatest impact on innovation ability, and has the smallest impact on study ability.
