Effective communication is exchanging thoughts and information to strengthen understanding and trust between the communicators. Good communication can also improve work efficiency to ensure everybody is on the right track to achieve the common goals. However in the present preliminary education system, many problems exist in the communication between the teachers and the students, which effect the student's learning and their personality development as the students are at their growing stages both psychologically and physically. Cases of conflicts and harms do happen due to improper communication. Therefore it is significantly important for the preliminary education to study the communication barriers between the teachers and the students, find the route causes and explore ways to establish effective communication.The first part of this article introduces a survey on communication between the teachers and the students via questionnaires and face to face interviews. An analysis has been conducted on the feedback questionnaires and the findings show the problems existing in the communications between the teachers and the students. The repetitive teaching and learning caused less and less communication; the older the students grow, the less willingly they tend to proactively communicate with their teachers; less trust and inequality between the students and the teachers is a barrier for effective communication; the teachers do not want to face their own problems or discard their teacher's haughty airs when communicating with the students; lack of communication methods and skills is another roadblock; the ineffective communication hinders the students'development; both the teachers and the students are aware of their problems in communication. In the second part, the writer proposes ways to improve communications between the teachers and the students by combining her own teaching practices with the feedbacks from the survey, including the premises for communication, communication methods and skills, and communication channels. Some of the proposals are specially made for the teachers. All the findings and suggestions will help improve the communication between the teachers and the students.
