In this thesis, the author proposes the hypothesis that learners use semantic networks to develop higher order thinking skills on the basis of analyzing the study of semantic networks and higher order thinking skills, then conducts experimental research and verify the theoretical hypothesis. In order to provide learners useful theoretical and practical reference in the learning process for the use of cognitive tools, this thesis constructs the learning pattern that learners make use of semantic networks for developing higher order thinking skills, and conducts experimental research to verify the theoretical hypothesis and the learning pattern. This thesis consists of six chapters.Chapter 1 Introduction. Based on analyzing the background and the need of learners' development, this thesis puts forward relevant research question, and explains the basic theory, research significance, research thinking and methods of this study.Chapter 2 Research Review. This chapter analyzes the research status of semantic networks and the development of higher order thinking skills.Chapter 3 Theoretical Basis The theoretical basis of this study include three aspects: Constructicist Learning Theory, Cognitive Tools Concept, Distributed Cognition Theory.Chapter 4 Theoretical assumptions. By analyzing the definition, functions, features of semantic networks and the connotation of higher order thinking, this chapter describes the relationship between semantic networks and higher order thinking skills and raises the theoretical assumptions that learners make use of Semantic Networks for developing higher order thinking skills.Chapter 5 Learning pattern. This chapter raises the learning pattern that learners make use of semantic networks for developing higher order thinking skills from the aspects of learners, teachers, semantic network and the question/task.Chapter 6 Experimental Research. Jiangxi Broadcasting and Television School as a case, verifies the theoretical hypothesis of this research and teaching.Conclusion. In the process of constructing semantic networks, problem/task is the core, and learners is the designer, self-managers, who takes the initiative to use semantic network, expands the thinking activity, creates knowledge representation. Construction of the semantic network learning can promote learners' development of higher order thinking skills.
