Today’s education of fine art is no longer purely skill training as in the past, but asocial work and a phenomenon of social and cultural by means of art to influence andcultivate people. The goal is to improve the nation’s quality of art and culture, and tobuild socialism of both spiritual and material civilization. In art pedagogy, cultivatingstudents with artistic thinking is an important issue for the full implementation ofquality education, which is also an urgent task placed in front of the educators.Middle school period is a critical time that mind takes changes. Cultivating inmiddle school period can lead to significant result. Fine art is a creative discipline withthe base of artistic thinking and skill development. The creation of fine art can not onlysimulate students’ studying interest, but develop their ability in shaping forms andcreating things. The creation of fine art has special function and purpose in cultivatingstudents’ creativity and artistic thinking. Therefore, it should be well estimated of studyand creation of fine art so as to improve their artistic quality and to develop their artisticthinking.Mind mapping is found by British researcher Tony Buzan in1970s. The purposeof finding mind mapping is to fully utilize the potential of human brain, so as tovisualize the thinking process, and to stimulate the inherent creativity of the brain.Mind mapping is a graphic thinking tool to visualize radioactive thinking with acomprehensive use of text, symbol, graphic, color, and etc. As an effective graphic tool,it is widely used now, and is helpful in cultivating and developing artistic thinking.The author of this article established the direction of research after the study ofmind mapping concept by Tony Buzan. Explore the three systems in the process ofartistic thinking, and then cultivate middle school students of artistic thinking withmind mapping in painting. In fine art classes of junior high school, guide students topaint with mind mapping. Practice shows that this study model give full play to thevalue of mind map, and will benefit the development of student’ art thinking andenhancement of the student’s art talent, and comply with the direction of art educationreform, better reflects educational characteristics nowadays.In conclusion, the research made some preliminary discussion and efforts to the construction of middle school students’ art thinking, and provide a useful reference forthe promotion and application of mind mapping in the field of teaching.
