As a major part of art, drama is the combination of different kinds of arts, consisting of literature, dance, music, painting and molding. At all times and in all lands, all the excellent plays of drama are abundant in its complicated literal contents, as well as a wealth of ideas and great values from arts. The drama instruction in senior high school really is the process of teaching the plays of drama, that is, the teaching of drama literature. It aims at leading the students to sense how drama exert its influence, by instructing the students to read, and thus to appreciate. Consequently, it helps to broaden their horizon, taste the real life and purify their soul. However, the drama instruction is not warmly welcome in the historical and cultural environment nowadays. In the course of Chinese reading instruction in senior high schools, the drama instruction is still, not in its proper place.What the Chinese teacher should do first is that he or she should be bear in mind the consciousness of different types of literature. Students should be led to know that the language used in drama is the foundermental media, and furthermore the language used in drama is of the verbal feather. There is also an obvious difference between the form of drama and other ones, especially different from another type---novels.In the process of teaching, teachers should be fully aware of the different sorts of drama. Plays of different feathers have different values in teaching. Thus, the emphasis placed in teaching should also vary. Drama can be classified into 3 major parts:Chinese ancient drama, Chinese modern drama and Chinese modern and contemporary drama, and European traditional drama, from which certain teaching principles can be dug out. Different kinds of literal works, the most valuable points in teaching in every one of them can also be found out. Chinese ancient drama plays great emphasis on the usage of language, so the drama itself can be thought of as the art of language. Chinese modern drama and Chinese modern and contemporary drama pay more attention to the spirit of drama, having an obvious feather of times;what the European traditional drama focuses on is the plot of play, and the conflict of feelings, which is more dramatic. Contents of drama institution should be based on the proper classification of drama, and then the method of the institution based on this could be reliable.After you determine what to teach in drama institution,the method of teaching is of the equal importance. The aimless teaching or teaching with no specific contents or no appropriate method also deserves reconsideration. Feather of different kinds of drama should be taken into consideration, when you base you teaching on the contents of drama. Methods of teaching vary, and the ways of teaching can also be different, but the basic method should be the same. "Experiential teaching" is strongly recommended. "Experiential teaching" provides the students with ample learning situation, in which students can experience the language themselves and the real charm of drama."Experiential teaching" focuses on the students'"reading", and "experiencing as a whole", "changing roles", to strengthen their abilities to appreciate. While in the selected courses, teachers can lead the students to do more practice and appreciate further into the contents, or do" Cooperative Research and Expanded experience", combined with teachers' specific plans and aims in advance.
