In the new phase of education revolution, the amount of new poems chosen to be used as texts is growing considerably. But it has resulted in embarrassing situation, in which quite a few students don't like the way these new poems are taught while they do like the poems themselves. The reason of this problem, I think, is that there is something missing and too general in teaching contents.The focus of my paper lies in the construction of the teaching contents of new poems. Based on the understanding of such facts as the interconnection between the four elements of literature, the subject itself that reads the new poems, the special reading environment, and the material which we use as text books, we've come to the elements of teaching contents of new poems:ways of expressing artistically like construct and rhythm, imaginary contents, paradox, irony, contract, etc. and the teaching of knowledge. Those teaching contents are mostly about procedural knowledge like "HOW TO DO", which means much to Chinese teaching, and the difference between the realization of teaching aims and otherwise not. Since the gain of procedural knowledge needs repeated practice, it requires those who edit the textbooks and those who teach new poems to arrange the sequence. The key elements of teaching contents come mainly from the styles of poems and how poets transform their feelings towards life to those styles. They focus more on the analysis of "HOW TO DO"Whatsoever, style and content are complementary to each other? The detailed analysis will result in better understanding of content. Born in the period of May the fourth Movement of New Culture, the new poems are modern and humane, which present the pursue for truth, virtue and beauty, the reflection on history, the concern about the nation's future, the further inquiry of spirit and the reconstruction of culture, whose value is essential in Chinese teaching. In addition, this study focuses on students learning new poems in senior high school, and the pomes concerned are mostly from the trial textbooks of the second phase of Shanghai education revolution.
