At present, there are a lot of forming virtual learning environments, but in the use of these virtual learning environments, "cognitive overload" phenomenon often appears. The reason of that is virtual learning environment is designed without considering learner's cognitive load.The Cognitive load theory had deeply analyzed the cause of "cognitive overload". The theory can provide guidance for the design of virtual learning environment. The design of virtual learning environment based on cognitive load has become a hot research at home and abroad. So, the research of virtual environment design based on cognitive load which can create an effective earning environment has important theoretical and practical significance.The research has been carried on in the following respects with Development of Research Methodology, Design Method, Systems Approach and Interpretive Structural Modeling Approach and so on.(1)Analyze of the virtual learning environment and cognitive load theory. Analyze the definition, classification, feature of the virtual learning environment. Also analyze the definition, structure, type of cognitive load and the basic point of cognitive load theory.(2)Analyze the necessity and the possibility of cognitive load theory guiding the design of virtual learning environment, put forward the overall design concept of virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory.(3)Analyze of the basic structure of virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory, after analysis of the general elements of a virtual learning environment(4)Proposed instructional design model, after analysis of the structure and the elements of virtual learning environment based on the cognitive load theory.(5)Carried on the software design. Proposed the software structure model of the virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory on the basis of its function analysis. (6)Example system development. Develop the virtual learning environment, which is under the guidance of instructional design and software design. To "C Programming" as an example for the development and trialAfter a series of research, paper has achieved certain results.(1)Proposed the whole idea of the design, which is respectively, from instructional design and software design aspects.(2)Constructed the instructional design model of the virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory. That is the design of virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory includes intrinsic cognitive load son environment design and external cognitive load son environment design and association cognitive load son environment design.(3)Proposed the software design structure of the environment, which is divided into two subsystems: teacher subsystem and learner subsystem.Paper has the following innovative:(1)Constructed the instructional design model. The design of virtual learning environment based on cognitive load theory includes intrinsic cognitive load son environment design and external cognitive load son environment design and association cognitive load son environment design.(2)Proposed the software design structure of the environment, on the basis of instructional design. And then design two subsystems more detail.
