Chinese knowledge is one of the main contents of the Chinese language learning .It is also an important basis for Chinese ability's enhancement and Chinese literacy's formation. As textbook is an important carrier of learning Chinese knowledge, the arrangement of textbooks'knowledge has a great influence on the content and effectiveness of teachers'"teaching" and students'"learning". Therefore, Chinese professors have never stopped the research of Chinese knowledge since Chinese was regarded as a separated subject. As the advance of educational reform and the implementation of the new curriculum standards, the traditional arrangement model of Chinese textbooks began to change, which aimed to establish a knowledge-based, integrated and realistic system. Under the influence of the new concept about language teaching material, the arrangement of the textbooks'knowledge system must be presented with different characteristics compared to the traditional textbooks.In addition, since the reform and opening up, there have been more and more communication and cooperation between China and other countries in the education circles. It makes the new educational thoughts, concepts, methods and ideas abroad start to collide and mix together with our local education reality. As one of the carriers of educational thoughts, undoubtedly, textbook is an important way to study foreign educational concepts. Taking the construction of textbooks of developed countries as a reference, comparing the language teaching from a multi-level and multi-angle perspective, investigating and communicating with them to find out the essence of other countries'language education and the advanced experience, which will be a great help on the language teaching material construction.The United States is the most developed capitalist country worldwide and the independent spirit, sense of innovation and pioneering quality of their citizens are obvious to all. It can be said that, American education, especially the language education plays a pivotal role on it. The American Literature is a window for us to study the American language education. Gu Huangchu referred:"the purpose of learning and utilizing the successful experience of other countries'language teaching materials is to establish a better system of Chinese teaching textbooks in next era. On the basis of studying other countries'advantages of native language textbooks, we should create a new Chinese language teaching materials which is both scientific and national, to meet the need of educate more high-quality human in the 21st century.Therefore, starting with the knowledge system, people should study American language education, explore the reform trends of its teaching materials and compare with our language textbooks on the horizontal ,on the basis of seeking common ground, in order to feel the most essential characteristics and laws construction of the language teaching materials of the United States, and to absorb and learn from their experience in the design and development of language teaching materials. It will play an important role in establishing Chinese language textbooks which owns Chinese characteristics.This paper includes five parts: The first part is a basic overview of the two sets of textbooks'knowledge systems. The second part is an introduction of the guiding ideology of the two knowledge systems both from the theoretical basis and policy aspects. The third and fourth parts, from the micro level, compare the two sets of teaching materials on the contents and methods of knowledge representation. The fifth parts, through the comparison of the two sets of teaching materials to consider how to organize our textbooks'knowledge system. Meanwhile obtain the significance that American Literature has on the construction of Chinese teaching material.This paper mainly adopts literature research and the method of comparison, on the basis of reading related references, collect and reflect from the two sets of language teaching materials'intellectual content, finally obtain the research achievements.
