Curriculum reform is a central problem of reforms in primary education. Many countries in the world have had curriculum reforms in primary education to face the challenge in the new century since 1990s. Studying and referring the experiences which other countries reformed curriculum can help to understand and reflect clearly on China's curriculum reforms. This thesis starts from the foreland of comparative research of curriculum and instruction, and mainly selects the methods of description and analysis to discuss primary curriculum reform and development of the province of Ontario, Canada since 1950s.This thesis is mainly composed of three parts. Firstly, it provides the background before the research of the curriculum design by introducing the general idea of curriculum design and general situation of primary education in Canada and in the province of Ontario. Secondly, it analyses the status of curriculum design in the province of Ontario by assessing eight subjects in the four curriculum areas which are regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Finally, on the basis of the upper two parts, it summaries four aspects of the primary curriculum design of the province of Ontario:All the People Participate in Education ; Emphasis on the Diversity of the Students ; Emphasis on Creativity ;Standardization, Diversification, and Individualization of the Evaluation.
