An Analysis Of Higher Education Donation In China

Adequate funding is a prerequisite for university development and an important guarantee. With the popularization of higher education, university funding shortages have become increasingly serious. And it has become a bottleneck in the development of higher education in our country. Various channels to raise the higher education funding has become the general trend of university fund-raising.Social donation is one of the important sources of higher education funding. It not only provides the material and intellectual support, but also helps to promote sustained and rapid development of university. At the same time, it is also conducive to achieving educational equity and maximizing the social welfare.Under the influence of Confucianism and Buddhism culture in China, we have a fine tradition of donation. However, social donation is something new which flourish and booming after the reform and opening up. Social donation started late in our society, not only small scale and small number, but also low percentage share of education funding. It is incompatible with the current level of economic development.Based on the analysis of social donation situation last ten years, in this paper, we explained the reasons, which hidden in the university own and social external environment, that why the scale of China's social contributions is very limited. Learning from the success experiences of the American social donation, we propose some solutions to the problem. We expect to increase the amount of social contributions and promote to achieve the harmonious university and harmonious society.
