The Impact Of Parental Rearing Pattern On Children's Development: On The Basis Of Empirical Study On Preschool Children In The City Of Hangzhou

Different rearing pattern means different effect on children's growth and development. Nowadays, there are two main rearing patterns in China:parental rearing pattern and inter-generational rearing pattern. The numbers of children who are cared by grandparents (maternal grandparents) are increased by years. Parent-child relationship has a significant positive effect on rearing pattern. The parental rearing conception and behavior play more important role on children if there is a harmonious parent-child relationship. Parent-child relationship always means the relationship between parents and children. Our study show that the meaning of parent-child relationship has been changed quietly; it means the relationship among parents, children, grandparents and maternal grandparents. The reason of which has a relationship with inter-generational family and children who brought up by grandparents or maternal grandparents become more and more common.Researches indicate that we should take more attention on the adverse effect of inter-generational rearing pattern not only in countryside but also in the city. Take an example. The grandparents and maternal grandparents always spoil their kids, and help them to do everything. But this does not explain that parents have advantages on caring children. They all put emphasis on material supply, academic performance and learning ability while ignore the cultivation of the spirit and moral education.There are differences in behavior and conception between children's parents and grandparents (maternal grandparents). Because the social backgrounds they live in, the education level they reach and experience of bringing up children are quite different. However, the goal of them is the same:they want their kids grow up healthy and have a good development. So the rearing patterns of them are merging but difference, which can promote and help each other.Environment has an important impact on children's development. Family environment always means family atmosphere. Warm, harmonious and peaceful family atmosphere is good for the formation of a close parent-child relationship, and which make the conception and behavior of parents or grandparents (maternal grandparents) more meaningful. The social environment also has an important effect on children's growth, such as community and kindergartens and so on. Based on our study of parent-child relationship and parental rearing pattern, I put forward three proposals:parents should establish a good relationship with their kids; parents should give a right example for their kids; parents should choose a good education environment. At last, I will introduce ecological systems theory, which was put forward by U.Bronfenbrenner, the American psychologist. The theory strengthens the environmental function in children's development. From the point of view, we can draw a conclusion that child-rearing is not only a business of a family but also a project that composed of family, community, kindergarten and society together.
