The study focuses on the problem of teachers' office which people pay less attention on. In the article, the author firstly sort out the formation and the development of teachers' office. Secondly, exam the types and setting of teachers' office, and then analysis the kinds of functions of the different settings in different offices. At last, discuss the factors that influent the functions of the teachers' office, and put forward to several recommendations on build the Ideal teachers' office.This study selected a primary school on the urban and the suburban in Shanghai as a research object, costing two months on site-observations, interviews and surveys on teachers. During this period, the author did a survey in two schools on the students' preferences about going to teachers' office. The students there were randomly selected. Also the author observed teachers' office settings and functions as well as other factors which could influent the display of function in these schools. Meanwhile the study adopted documentation analysis to collect information about the settings and functions of teachers' office around the world as the supplementary of the materials which were selected by field observation and survey.We can see that:Firstly, different people who move into classroom lead the different styles of teachers' offices. There are obvious contrasts between "classroom-based workspace" represented by America and separated office represented by china. These two categories has their own advantages and disadvantages. Secondly, there are two kinds of teachers' office classified by locations in school. One is concentrated-setting office, the other is scattered- setting office. School leaders distributes teachers to their offices by several principles which could be class, grade, subject and a multidimensional crossover. The office setting refers to handling teachers' privacy. The decoration of each office could be divided into open style one and enclosed style one. Thirdly, different settings of teachers' office decide different functions. In general, there are nine functions about teachers' workplace where they can prepare for lessons and materials, mark assignments, communicate and discuss with others about their work, coach, manage and look after students, plan activities, treat visitors, make leisure atc. At last, the most important factor that influent offices' functions is the culture in teachers' office. And the whole group state and relationship between colleagues in the office become the key factors affect the play of teachers' office function.Based on the above findings, this paper advice to make teacher-centered model transform into a teacher-student-interacted office.
