As is known to all, vocabulary is one of the most important and fundamental elements in English learning. The number of English words that students master directly influences the students'development in all language skills. Therefore, how to teach English words is an important component of English teaching and learning. However, the current situation of high school English vocabulary teaching and learning is far from satisfactory. Although in the scientifically and technologically advanced 21st century, many rural English teachers still adopt traditional teaching methods, which results in the fact that quite a number of students in rural areas master a very small number of English words and lay a very weak foundation in English learning. This, in turn, greatly affects the efficiency in vocabulary teaching on teachers'side. Considering the problems in the current English vocabulary teaching and learning, the present writer, with nearly 10 years" teaching experience in rural high school English, thinks it's especially important to find a new mode to improve vocabulary teaching and learning in rural high school. With the widespread use of information technology, more and more English teachers are paying attention to the multi-media assisted English vocabulary teaching and learning in rural high school. In recent years, many English experts and teachers have widely studied the above-mentioned mode, and made some achievements. However, as a whole, the results of those researches are not very satisfactory.The research herein aims to construct a proper mode of English vocabulary teaching and learning for rural high school art students. And by keeping track of, and making comparison between the two classes of art students in Qichun No.l High School, where the present writer works, before, during, and after the experiment, the present writer verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the new mode. On the basis of the experiment results, the teachers can, to some extent, help students change their way of English vocabulary learning, from a passive one to an active, exploratory and cooperative one. The latter way of English vocabulary learning will definitely lead to the healthy development of English word teaching and learning in rural high school, especially for rural art students. In this paper, the following research methods are adopted:Literature review. Questionnaire investigation. After-class interview. Data analysis, and Experiment in class.This paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the background of the research herein, the main problems to be studied, research methods to be adopted and the structures in this paper. The second chapter makes a literature review of the current situation of studies on the application of multi-media network in English teaching and learning, especially vocabulary teaching and learning in high school home and abroad, analyzes the existing problems in those studies, and introduces the theoretical basis of multi-media English teaching and learning---Constructivism, cooperative learning theory, and Environmental teaching and learning theory. In view of the present situation of English vocabulary teaching and learning for rural high school art students, the third chapter puts forward a new mode of English vocabulary teaching and learning, i.e. Multi-media Assisted English Vocabulary Teaching and Learning for Rural High School Art Students. Furthermore, this chapter expounds this mode in detail in terms of theoretical basis, preparation for the experiment, design plan, teaching strategy, and operation process. The fourth chapter focuses on the goal, the object, the content, the procedures, the methods, and examples of the research herein, and analyzes the research results. The fifth chapter illustrates the conclusion resulting from the study of Multi-media Assisted English Vocabulary Teaching and Learning for Rural High School Art Students, the effect and significance of the research, the problems to be solved, and the application of the mode in the future. The last chapter points out that Multi-media Assisted English Vocabulary Teaching and Learning will become an important aid in rural high school English teaching, and that all the educational researchers and English teachers shall take an active part in practicing this mode.In the past year, the present writer has experimented on this mode and found that this mode scientifically and practically promotes the students" autonomous ability, the teachers" professional improvement and the informationization of English teaching and learning. At the same time, the present writer has noticed some defects in this mode. In the future research, these problems are to be improved to advance the Multi-media Assisted English Vocabulary Teaching and Learning into a higher level.
