Phonological code has played important role in deaf people's series cognitive processing activities. They can make use of phonological code like hearing people, but with greater difficulties. As a complicated visual language cognitive activity, lipreading plays great role in oral language's reception and understanding for both hearing-impaired and hearing people, especially can help the hearing-impaired to get involved in the mainstream society. Foreign countries'research on lipreading began earlier and there are more research, while we have less. Other countries'research could be used, but the results may be not proper for Chinese, so this paper, on the basis of lipreading's research abroad, designs four experiments to discuss phonological code's role in hearing-impaired college students'lipreading Chinese moving and static vowel identification. The experiments'results are as following:(1) The onset time of the hearing loss, learning in regular class, educational system and oral communication environment could influence correct identification of hearing-impaired college students'lipreading Chinese vowel identification, while hearing aid had no influence. (2) Moving and static vowel types had difference for hearing-impaired college students'lipreading, which could be seen from static vowel's higher correct identification and faster responding time. (3) In lipreading phonological code's role can be seen from hearing code and articulatory code. The experiment had proved the existence of hearing code in hearing-impaired college students' lipreading, but the hearing code greater influence on moving vowel. Articulatory code's role is more obvious, which can be implied by mouth moving code, phonological code and viseme visibility. (4) Phonological code, finger code and mouth moving code are all exist in hearing-impaired college students'lipreading Chinese vowel identification. Mouth moving code mainly influences phonological code's articulatory code, while finger code may be a direct and vivid "phonological code". With the development of hearing-impaired college students, the phonological code would influence more on their lipreading. In the future the research tendency is as following:(1) Expanding the subject's extent and number of domestic lipreading experiments. (2) Doing more research on lipreading consonant under static condition. (3) Broadening the research of hearing-impaired college students'experiment variables, such as the degree of hearing loss, age, family communication ways and parents'hearing situations. (4) Making use of the advanced brain imaging techniques to explore domestic hearing-impaired college students'lipreading. (5) Widening the experiment extent, from the single character identification to the understanding of phrases, short sentences and long sentences.
