Objective:Construction of campus culture is an important approach to promoting college students' overall qualities. Taking an example of Xinjiang Medical University, the present paper studies the effects of present campus culture construction on the overall quality of medical students and find out the shortcomings of the present campus culture construction and students' needs. The paper attempts to provide guidance for promoting students' overall quality with campus culture construction. Methodology:The survey takes 1300 students in Xinjiang Medical University as the study population and applies the Stratified Cluster Random Sampling approach in distributing the questionnaires.1234 copies of completed questionnaire have been returned. After data entry with EpiData software, the data collected are analyzed with the statistical software package SPSS16.0. Statistical description mainly adopts indicators of rate and proportion. Statistical analysis is mainly tested by X2. Significance Levelαis 0.05. Findings:The students in Xinjiang Medical University highly recognize the effectiveness of the campus culture construction. Specific findings are as follows:1. Different grades and whether students are leaders are of no statistical significance to the overall recognition of the campus culture construction.2. Students differ to some extent in the satisfaction with the implementation of campus culture programs. To name one, the overall satisfaction with material culture is the lowest. After investigation, it is found that in terms of material culture satisfaction, students properties such as different grades, ethnic groups, educational backgrounds, majors and whether students are leaders are of statistical significance.3. Eighty percent of the students have the plan to take part in campus cultural activities. Student leaders are more inclined to take part in the campus cultural activities according to their plans. It is also found that student leaders are more inclined to pay close attention to and take part in the campus cultural activities than non-student leaders and students in lower grades share the similar tendency with student leaders compared with higher ones.4. Three qualities or competences the students most expect to promote and cultivate in their college life are interpersonal skills, language expression ability and psychological qualities. On the other hand, the three qualities they think they are lack of most are the ability to practice and innovate, culture training and the interpersonal skills.5. The three most effective campus cultural activity types in cultivating college students' overall qualities are mental and political education, seminars and preaching activities. Apart from sport and entertainment activities, six no-one-left programs of promoting comprehensive qualities and preaching activities, other campus cultural activities influencing students overall qualities cultivation are of significance in statistics. In this respect, effects on lower-grade students are more prominent than those on higher-grade students.6. The influence of campus cultural programs on students overall qualities is as follows:(1) Each program has influence on about 80% students in cultivating their comprehensive qualities;(2) In terms of influence, moral qualities top the list. Others have their own emphasis. Spirit culture has more influence on psychological qualities, material culture on humanistic qualities, institutional culture on the quality of political theory, behavior culture on humanistic qualities. (3) In difference test, four components of campus culture have their own emphasis on the influence of different-grade students and whether the students are leaders. Conclusions:1. Campus culture construction plays a positive role in promoting the cultivation of medical students' comprehensive qualities.2. Each program of campus culture has some influence on different aspects of students' overall qualities.3. Each program of campus culture differs in influencing the overall quality cultivation of medical students who belong to different individual types.4. Schools are supposed to construct harmonious campus culture and promote the development of students' overall qualities.5. School authorities should also intensify the efforts to publicize the campus culture activities in an attempt to involve students in campus culture construction activities and increase their enthusiasm and initiative.6. As a medical university, the authority should make targeted use of campus culture construction to cultivate students' overall qualities based on the characteristics of majors and the actual conditions of students.
