Foreigners And International Communities In Shanghai-Case Study Of Pudong New Area

Shanghai will be built up to an international financial, shipping center and a world city, based on the city's development strategy and development plan. One criteria of world city is that the foreign population ratio should be more than 10%, which is an experience data from developed cities. Currently, foreign population in Shanghai is lower than 10%, but the proportion is showing a trend of rapid growth. Meanwhile, with the construction of financial and shipping center, foreign population in Shanghai will continue to increase, together with the increase number of international communities. This requires higher demand of foreign population management and international community construction skills, in which Pudong New Area takes a leading part.This paper takes foreign population and international communities in Pudong New Area as research objects. Based on existing research, the paper analyzes character of foreign population; character, locations and management of international communities in Pudong New Area. All the data in this paper are gathered through questionnaires and in-depth interviews.In conclusion, some suggestions are laid out:accelerate introduction of laws and regulations suitable for international community management; strengthen professionalism of international community's management team; encourage the integration of international and local communities.
