"Based on rational cognition,'idea'refers to the insight, ideal and faith, representing the profound discernment of human nature and the clear instruction for one's action". Teachers'routine teaching practice is, more often than not, carried out under the guidance of a certain'idea'.Teachers'individual teaching idea is the product of their thought of teaching and the sublimation of their teaching practice. It has an important effect on their professional development. Being a sustained and complicated process, the formation of teachers'individual teaching idea is affected by both external and internal factors. Hence, it is of great significance to conduct a pertinent investigation into the formation and the influencing factors of teachers'individual teaching idea, since it will greatly facilitate teachers'professional advancement and promote the educational reform. In this study, the subject is a mathematics teacher from an elementary school. Through veritable description of the teacher's life experience and teaching practice, the author aims to reconstruct the authenticity of education and explores the idea it contains and the essence it embodies in daily life. In terms of research method, this study adopts life-history method in order to check the process and relevant factors of teachers'individual teaching idea based on their professional life. The life-history study fully confirms the meanings of the subject's life and her teaching practice because it not only involves the matter of teaching, but provides an effective way to examine the"philosophy"of teaching. This paper is mainly divided into three parts: the theoretical basis, case study and the conclusion plus suggestions of the research. The first chapter discusses the feasibility and necessity of this study, and offers a review of the existing researches. The second and the third chapters form the empirical research of the paper. By employing autobiography method in life-history research combined with interviews and classroom observation, the author centers on Teacher B's personal life experience, learning experience and teaching experience with a view to quest the forming process and influencing factors of her individual teaching idea. The research reveals that a teacher's individual teaching idea undergoes an incessant developing process and the influencing factors include teaching practice, personal ideology, main-stream teaching concept, school atmosphere and the faculty's perceptions etc.The last chapter draws a conclusion from the above analysis. Suggestions of developing teachers'individual teaching idea are put forward at both personal and school levels.
