Based on the study of various theories on learning motivation, J.M. Keller, psychological professor in Florida University of America, introduced ARCS Model of Motivation Design, which consider students' learning motivation is affected by the following four factors:attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. This systematic theory, perfectly combing theories of motivation and teaching design, has aroused great attention since it was introduced. Via profound study and exploration, its positive effects have been widely recognized. With the reform of curriculum in high school, the theory that teachers lead while students plays an active role is encouraged, so Class teaching must face all the students, promote inquiry learning and independent learning. However, in the teaching practice the teachers often have to face the problem, that is, with the development of economy, many students are no longer interested in learning, especially students in Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province. They pursuit the gain of material wealth, believing that the college entrance exam is not the only way of their future life, thus lack the quality to endure hardship and hard work. In addition, it is easy for them to give up while meeting setbacks, which can explain why they have lower learning motivation themselves. This thesis, taking Zhongshan No.1 Middle School as an example, aims to do research on the use of ARCS motivation theory and improve the researcher's teaching ability. After four months'teaching practise, the paper did a comparison between class which had adopted the ARCS motivation design and a class which hasn't. The result shows that ARCS Model do have obvious effect on inspiring students'learning motivation, enhancing their performance in study. So finally, It drew a conclusion that ARCS Model of Motivation Design is well worth applying in high school. |
