Facing the situation of new curriculum, the research into textbook use is of great practical significance. The present thesis focuses on the following issues:(1) How do the teachers and students use the textbook? This part is examined according to the proportion (all, most, half, few and none) and frequency (always, often, sometimes, seldom and never) of the use of different parts in the textbook including examples, exercises, reading materials, experiments, introductions and notes. (2) How do the teachers and students feel when they use the textbook? That is to say, this point concentrates on the comprehensive evaluation of the textbook such as whether it is easy to teach and study? And the evaluations of its contents, practices, reading materials, experiments, examples and exercises are aims of this part. The objects of the study are 410 students and 27 mathematics teachers in Grade 1 from five high schools in Chongqing. Through quantitative (descriptive statistic andχtest method) and qualitative (interview method) analysis, the findings include:(1) Textbook remains the primary source of teaching and studying, especially for schools of middle quality. (2) 77.7% of the teachers used about half of the examples, and the new teachers used the highest proportion. (3) 73.4% of the students used about half of the exercises, and the school level significantly impacted the students' feeling of the difficulty. (4) Chapter poems welcomed by teachers and students. (5) 52.7% of the students and 88.9% of the teachers read about half of the marginal notes, and reflected the marginal notes promoted teaching and studying. (6) Though, the textbook employs many practices, readings and experiments embodying the new concept of curriculum standards, rarely used by teachers and students. (7) Students generally reflected that they felt the occurrence and development of mathematical knowledge and the link between mathematics and life. (8) Teachers and students hope that the language of the textbook more terse. Finally, based on the investigation, this paper reflects on the further study compile and use of the textbook.
