Like the primitive ecology sports cultures in other areas, the time-honored sports cultures of the Yellow River Delta have partly disappeared due to the change of circumstances, elapse of the time and the evolution of society while some have survived from earlier times. According to the National Program for Sport Reform and Development During 2001-2010, the sports resources in the minority areas should be well exploited. Great effort must be made to collect, collate and popularize the national sports resources. On December 1,2009 the Yellow River Delta efficient ecological economic zone development plan was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In the new historical period, the exploitation and utilization of primitive ecology sports cultures of the Yellow River Delta face both chances for development and challenges. This paper applies several research methods like consulting documents and materials, investigating, interviewing expert, doing fieldwork and logical analysis to study the category of the primitive ecology sports cultures of the Yellow River Delta, the characteristics of the sports resources, the current existence of sports cultures in different towns as well as the development. The studies come up with the conclusion that the sports cultures with their distinct features of entertaining, regional, traditional, diverse, pluralistic, inheritable and integrative is variety in forms, rich in content, wide-spread and have a long history. But the existence and development of sports cultures in the towns is not optimistic. First, some traditional sports with local characteristics are rarely kept in schools. Second, some traditional sports with Yellow River Delta features become less and less. Third, the development in different areas is unbalanced. In the year 2001 the Ministry of Education promulgated the new PE curriculum standards, advocating the exploitation and utilization of ethnical and folk sports resources. So, making good use of the traditional sports resources and integrating those resources into middle and primary schools'physical education systems is an important guarantee for the new curriculum reform. This paper put forwards some tentative principles and methods, namely, education administrators should make directional policies, local schools establish the incentive mechanism for innovation, primary PE teachers have the consciousness of participation and creation, the curriculum structure in the universities keep pace with the PE reform, research institutes foster the awareness of serving for the local education, community activities coordinate with the popularization of the traditional sports program. In the light of the research outcome, this paper offers several suggestions, hoping to present some useful experiences and theoretical reference for the physical education workers in their exploitation of the traditional sports resources.
