Occupational change, an important event in an individual's career, will exert deep impact on the route and development of one's career. A research on occupational change enables us to understand the career development of an individual and to find out the factors affecting their career. Mainly out of the perspective of an organization or the society, past research on occupational change, analyses the factors affecting occupational change based on questionnaires and statistics, and yet pays less attention the cause of occupational change, which, on the contrary, is the focus of said research. In this essay, the author, in application of qualitative research on typical individual case, studies the cause, features and affecting factors of occupational change of the 2003-year computer graduates who enter non-IT industry.Main part of said essay demonstrates two typical cases in terms of the occupational change process, including major selection and the first occupation seeking process. By paraphrasing the changing procedures of individual cases, we analyze the features and factors of each occupational change, based on which, together with research on relative materials of other targets, we sum up the features of occupational change of specific groups, two categories of occupational change and the factors affecting occupational change. Eventually, the essay ponders on the short points and perspective of this research.The essay consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 is the Preface, dealing with the activation and meanings of said research, the definition of relative notions, research method and the overall situation of the target groups.Chapter 2 and 3 show and analyze two typical cases. Either case is explained in details according to the target groups'growth, major selection, choice of 1st occupation and the process of occupational change. An overall analysis is rendered on how they enter non-IT industry and their every specific occupational change. Moreover, we sum up the features and factors of their occupational change and provide advice on their future occupation.Chapter 4 is the Conclusion and Rethink, which summaries the main features and categories of occupational change, the affecting factors and rethink on the deficiency.
