In the last decade, the Ministry of Education has actively promoted the construction of primary school English teaching, and the English course has been developed well all over the country. The aim of primary school English teaching is to incite pupil's interest in learning English, to train students'preliminary sense of language, to ground them well in pronunciation and intonation. So phonetic teaching has been an important aspect of primary school English. However, because of limited qualifications of teacher team, especially in Chinese dialect areas, the problem of pronunciation with local dialect hindered the development of primary school English phonetics teaching, and affected the advancement and the course of primary school English teaching reform. Therefore, the survey and reflection on English phonetics teaching of primary school become more and more important.This thesis consists of five parts, which begin with introduction to emphasize on the English phonetics teaching of primary school. In the second chapter, it reviews the development of phonetic teaching in China and abroad, clearified that the ultimate goal of phonetics teaching is improving students'English communicative competence. In Chapter Three, the needed theory foundation is expatiated. In Chapter Four, through questionnaire, pronunciation test and interview, the author will reveal exsiting problems of primary school English phonetics teaching in ZhangZhou area. For example, serious effection on pronunciation by Minnan dialect, lacking of quality of teacher team, not enough attention by school and so on. The paper also analyzes the related situation and makes recommendations and proposals. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion, in which the conclusion from study was generalized, the shortcomings were analyzed, and the direction and emphasis were presented.
