Task-based teaching in English listening classroom demands that the teacher should first state explicitly the objectives and then design some listening activities closely relevant to the teaching content to involve the students enthusiastically into these activities and improve their English listening competence. Research in task-based teaching in the junior high school English listening classroom has distinct significance in English teaching theory and practice.The writer of this paper attempts to apply the task-based English language teaching theory to the junior high school listening teaching; she has carried out an experiment on the basis of this attempt. The characteristics and innovation of the thesis lie in that the writer uses experiments and questionnaires to analyze the effectiveness of task-based English language teaching in junior high school listening classroom and probe into the best way of employing the theory.The experiment is a one-year program that involves two junior high school (Grade 2) classes with 100 students altogether. The traditional English language teaching theory and the task-based English language teaching theory are respectively applied to the control class and the test class. Through the experiment, it can be obviously concluded that the task-based English language teaching theory is conducive to the improvement of the students'cognitive and emotional state.
