Listening is one of basic language skills. In every language, it is one of the skills that are most frequently used. As we all know, human beings get listening skill earlier than other skills. The listening proficiency directly influences the development of the whole language level. Meanwhile, listening plays a vital role in English language teaching and learning, which needs separate training. However, most people did not find an appropriate and effective way to learn or teach listening. With the development of the theories of second language acquisition, a large number of scholars and teachers pay much attention to the listening teaching. Meanwhile, by experiment, most of them recognize the function of listening in classroom. They find Listening can help students understand the importance of language. The ability of listening can influence the language competence of the English learners. It can test the level of language for learners. Only when the listening proficiency is adequately developed, can students learn English well. What is more, listening is an indispensable way to language input. Only when students have enough language input, can language output becomes possible. Therefore, listening is the skill that should be paid much attention to language teaching and learning. With the rapid development of China, English is becoming more and more important in the modern society. People have reached a consensus in paying particular attention to English teaching now in China. Listening, as an important language skill, deserves our attention in the teaching and learning process. However, in the current English language teaching practice, listening comprehension is always relatively weak. Although many teachers spend a lot of time on it, their effort turn out to be fruitless. The purpose of the thesis is to explore the application of task-based language teaching in English listening in junior middle school. An experiment proves that task-based language teaching is feasible and effective in listening teaching. Task-based language teaching can arouse learners’interest in language learning and help learner master learning strategies and skills, and cultivate good learning habits as well. Task-based language teaching should be paid much attention to in English teaching and learning.
