With the reformation of universities' curriculums going continually deeper, the societies' special function and position in universities' physical education will surely become more apparent. The Sports Societies have great educational significance in improving college Students' physical quality and developing their individuality, as well as cultivating a sence of life-long sports.According to the local realities of Shijiazhuang City, by way of documents, investigation, mathematical statistics and so on, this paper conducts a survey on such aspects as the necessity to develop Sports Societies in universities of Shijiazhuang City,the situations of the projects, the members, field and equipment, the management and the influential factors to the societies' development, etc. This paper tries to explore the characteristics of these societies and find the problems and defects in their operation. The aim is to improve the operation situation and provide theoretical support for the societies' healthy development at present and in the future.We can safely draw the following conclusions:1.The importance and necessity of developing Sports Societies in universities of Shijiazhuang City has become common understanding of vast teachers and students. Moreover, it is also one of the important content in buiding the culture on campus and developing students' comprehensive abilities.2.The Sports Societies' projects are mainly about balls, while the newly introduced sports are undeveloped.3.Of the societies' member, boys are a little more than girls in a general way and there is a tendency of obvious decreasing with the grade increasing.4.Studens' intrest is the main motivation of their joining the societies, which in return lays the foundation for their life-long development of sports.5.Most of the societies' activities are in the afternoon, which are not very frequent.6.The field and equipment provided for the societies by the universities is inadequate, the source of funds narrow, the management loose, the system of assessment and encouragement comparatively backward.
