At present, China is vigorously promoting the new basic education curriculum reform for the purpose of upgrading the quality of students. In the reform, teachers are the main force. The key of this reform depends on the teachers'recognition and the degree of acceptance and active participation, which is decided by the quality of teachers and will tell if the reform conducts well and achieves the expected goal. The reform proposed higher requirements for the senior middle school biology teachers. It is not enough for them to meet in the traditional "mission, tuition, resolving" only. They must be under the background of the new curriculum reform, through a variety of ways and means to learn new curriculum ideas, and to change their roles, as well as to improve their overall qualities and participate in the new curriculum reform, in order to meet the new curriculum biology teaching.In this context, in order to optimize the senior middle school biology teachers, we must understand the actual situation of them. This article first analyzed the quality of the teachers on many domestic and international researches. Then investigated the new requirements of the curriculum reform for biology teachers'quality from the educational concepts, knowledge structure system, teaching ability, physical and mental qualities and change of teacher roles. This article selects 28 senior middle schools from the five districts and two counties of Lanzhou City as the sample. We investigated 110 biology teachers and 500 students and interviewed 20 teachers .Through the analysis, we can see that nowadays the biology teachers'quality of Lanzhou is at a better level. However, from the data of analysis and interviews of teachers, we found that the development of teachers is not balanced. It includes that some new teaching ideas for biology teachers is lagging behind and knowledge structure is not reasonable, the ability to adapt to the new curriculum reform needs to be improved and physical and mental quality of the needs to strengthen further. To solve these problems I respect certain recommendations from teachers'education, including training teachers to form a clear and correct idea of modern education, optimizing the knowledge structure, improving teacher's compound capacity of teaching, as well as in-service continuing education including making In-service teacher training, encouraging teachers'in-service training and full-time education amateur, paying attention to training leaders and key teachers subject. We hope that biology teachers will promote the quality of overall improvement, to meet 21st century needs of the new biology teachers.
