Home schooling education as a new educational concept and mode of elementary education, emerged in the 1960s' and has developed vigorously since the 1980s in America. The educational concept and mode also penetrated many countries around the world and China's Taiwan and Hong Kong area.John Holt (1923-1985) is a famous American writer in the 20th century, educator, speaker, amateur musicians and humanitarian, is the advocate of American home schooling movement, known as " The father of the American home schooling education ".This article is closely around the thought of John Holt's home schooling education and divided into four chapters for analysis. The first chapter is to describe the details of John Holt's life and educational activities, analyze the practice foundation of forming his thoughts of home schooling education.The second chapter is to in-depth analysis the formed times background of the thoughts of John Holt's home schooling education. The third chapter expounds the major contents of the thoughts of John Holt's home schooling education, including five principal aspects: the necessity and possibility of running the home school, the view of curriculum of experience-center,the view of teaching of child-center, the view on teachers of helping to guide and the view of encouraging the cooperation between institutionalized schools and home schools. At last, the fourth chapter summaries the characteristics and effects of the thoughts of John Holt's home schooling education. The whole article has presented the thoughts of John Holt's home schooling education relatively completely, which not only conducive to enhance our understanding of American home schooling education,but also complements related research of our country.
