Ideological and political education for college students in nationalities institutes and universities forms an important part of such education in colleges and universities. Ideological standards and political awareness of contemporary college students in nationalities institutes are closely related to the development of minority areas in China, the realization of strategic objectives for socialist construction in those areas, the prosperity and stability there, the future of students of different nationalities, the vital interests of masses of all nationalities and are related to the education of qualified constructer and reliable successor of socialist construction.As a special group of young people,ethnic students show certain particularity in terms of their mode of thinking, behavior habits and comprehensive quality when compared with students of Han nationality.Therefore, this thesis sets out to analyze the thought characteristics of college students in nationalities universities starting from the features of ideological and political education in such institutes .Then, this paper tries to review the successful experience and abstract useful methods, basic characteristics and particular laws of ideological and political education. Based on the aims of such institutes and thought characteristics of students there, this paper offers a series of solutions in order to enhance the influence and effectiveness of ideological and political education in nationalities institutes and universities.With ideological and political education in nationalities institutes as the theme, this paper is guided by the discipline of Marxist ethnic theory and socialism with Chinese characteristics and it adopts the methods of dialectical materialism and historical materialism to analyze the elements and process of such education systematically so as to provide suggestions to improve and enhance the education.This thesis mainly consists of five parts. The first part serves as the introduction which states the necessity and significance of the study on the distinguishing features of ideological and political education in nationalities institutes and universities; the second part provides the relevant theoretical framework; the third part analyzes the chances and challenges; the fourth part discusses the major characteristics of ideological and political education in question; the last part provides several suggestions and solutions to the enhancement and improvement of ideological and political education for college students in nationalities institutes and universities.
