Ever since the 1990s, the wave of internationalization of higher education worldwide has quietly emerged, which brought Chinese university a great opportunity to develop. The university teachers,as the implementers of the education, should accordingly make some adjustment of their own roles in order to adapt to this environmental changes. Along with the progress of the university internationalization, whether the teachers have recognized the need to transfer their own role? In what aspects the teachers have made adjustment? Whether the effects of the role-shifting by teachers have been promoting international of universities? Which problems and obstacles will be encountered through the process of teachers'role-shifting? It is getting more and more worthwhile to analyze these emerged problems. In the trend of internationalization of colleges and universities, to analyze the teachers'role-shifting under the internationalization background will help teachers to adapt to the international environment and further promote the process the internationalization of universities.Based on the internationalization of universities at home and abroad and the current research findings of teachers'role and role-shifting, together with teachers'quality and skills that the international universities required, this paper summarized the international role of teachers should have. Through a questionnaire survey and interview, seven Colleges of Chongqing University were investigated, from which the teachers taught courses in English and their students were the foreign students. Results showed that the teachers who taught in the International Master Programs had already made some efforts to transfer their roles compared with the traditional teachers'roles, but there were still some problems in the teaching for foreign students. Finally, some suggestions and countermeasures on how to realize the teachers'role-shifting successfully under the international background were put forward.. This thesis mainly consisted of five chapters.Chapter one introduced the research background, research purpose, and research method, as well as the significance of the study.In chapter two, some basic concepts and theories of the study were first introduced, followed by a review of relevant literature at home and abroad in order to provide a theoretical foundation for the whole study.Chapter three and four investigated the current situation of teachers'role-shifting in Chongqing University during the internationalization. Through the questionnaire and interview, several emerged problems and the obstacles during the teachers'role-shifting process were presented, followed by a detailed analysis of these problems.Combined the relevant theories and the studies of teachers'role-shifting.Chapter five put forward some countermeasures and practical suggestions on how to achieve the teachers'role-shifting for the international colleges.Chapter six summarized the major findings and limitations of this study, and gave some recommendations for future studies.Through this study, the author has had a better understanding of the current situation of teachers'role-shifting in colleges and universities during the internationalization. There are still many problems demanding prompt solution for the international colleges and universities, such as the obstacles of the teachers'role-shifting. Therefore, it is our unshakable responsibility to improve the internationalization level of the universities, achieve a smooth transfer of the teachers'role-shifting and improve the overall quality of teachers to adapt to the international education.
