Role is usually construed as the particular behavior mode performed according to the social objective expectancy by an individual who possesses a particular social status. Role expectation refers to the requirements meeting other's expectations set forth over the attitudes, behavior pertaining to those who possesses a particular social status in the social systems.When it comes to role expectation of middle school teachers, it refers to the hopes and anticipation placed on middle school teachers'behavior, attitude, moral character etc. Different expectants may cherish different hopes and anticipation over the same teacher; moreover, different middle school teacher may bear different expectations over his or her own role played in his or her career due to his or her discipline, educational backgrounds, etc.This research will focus on the differences in teacher role expectations cherished by middle school teachers of different subjects, gender, professional ranks, educational backgrounds, and the differences in teacher role expectations cherished by middle school students of different gender, grade, origin.A teacher role expectation questionnaire suitable for both teachers and students of Hebei Province is compiled, which includes two editions: a teacher edition and a student edition. The questionnaire items of both editions are identical except the demographic variables. The teacher edition questionnaire can be employed to inquire into the differences in teacher role expectations cherished by middle school teachers of different gender, subject, professional ranks, educational backgrounds and teachers being or not being in charge of a class. The student edition questionnaire can be used to probe into the differences in teacher role expectations cherished by middle school students of different gender, grade, origin.Conclusions were drawn that middle school teacher role expectations of Hebei Province can not be influenced by teacher gender, student gender, student origin, but it varies significantly in terms of different professional ranks of teachers, subjects being taught by teachers, class teacher or not, educational backgrounds of teachers, grade of students, etc.
