Rugby is originated in Rugby, a central city of England in 1823 and it has broad mass base and strong ornamental. The Rugby World Cup as the most important representative of the game has strong attraction to the audience and TV viewers which is just inferior to the Olympic Games and the Soccer World Cup. Now there are more than 100 countries developing the British rugby in the world. The British rugby was introduced into China in 1990. It developed slowly and it has low coverage and backwardness in the first ten years. After the item selected for the Olympic sport in 2009, it was selected for the national games for 2013 in 2010 which brought new opportunities for the development of the sport in China. In this paper, the universities which carried out the sport is my study object in China. I analysis the status quo from the purpose of developing the sport, investment funds, venue, the level of equipment and the team-building with the method of literature, surveying, questionnaire survey and statistics and so on, then I analysis the restricting factors with the method of investigation and research. It concluded that: the developing of British rugby accords with the demand of China's education and sports in Chinese universities and there are difficulties in investment funds, venue, facilities, etc. While the teams improve their own competitive level, they also led other students to participate in the rugby campaign. The sport develops actively in our part of province, city and university particularly after the rugby join in the "two sessions" (the Olympic Games and the National Games).
