Abstract The problem of overloading primary-and middle-school students in their study has been a hot topic in China抯 elementary education. The overload has actually impaired the mental and physical health of the youngsters,and has become a matter of popular concern. The present study expounds the implication of such overload of elementary-and secondary-school work,its major manifestations,and the harmful effects that ensue.Approaching from pedagogical, psychological sociological and cultural perspectives,this thesis attempts to make a systematic analysis and a comprehensive study of the contributing factors of the overload,and search the solutions of the train of thought and the basic countermeasure for the primary- and middle-school students who are now so over-burdened with lessons and homework that they are almost out of breath.
