This paper focuses on the design and the implement of the system of Web-based Multimedia Distance Education. Related theories, technology and some possible problems are also emphasized first, it introduces the domestic and overseas situation in this area and discusses the characteristics and the prospect of the system. Then, based on CSCW theory, the objective of the system are brought forth, After that, the implement and running situation of the nonreal time part and its effect on the whole system are summarized.Following is the emphasis of this paper, where the design and implement of the real time part are introduced from theory to realization. And the disposal policy of the key problem, such as the choice of net protocol is also discussed.In this part, the real time server and the real time client are introduced. The real time server is described first, which emphasizes on some key points such as entry control, the design of data frames and cache control. It shows the effect of data compressing to the progress of multimedia application vigorously.Next, it discusses the construction of the real time client in respect of its analysis, its design and further its code implement based on UML modeling. During the modeling process, the characteristics of each element of UML are discussed in detail, and some strategies which can be applied to various application fields are presented. Concerning the code implement of the Model, the most authoritative modeling tools, Rational Rose is introduced, and it provides the collaborative interfaces with programming tools such as VC++,VB,Java and so on. Furthermore, the model of the real time client is converted to VC++6.O code frames.Finally, the experiences obtained in the system constructing process are summarized. In addition, some further improvements are suggested.
