The purpose of this thesis is to apply the principle of complementarity to exploring the comtradiction of physical education and professional training. The principle of complementarity points out that sometimes the application of some classical conceptions would rule out the application of others. But in other conditions both of them are the important to describe some phenomena. It is helpful to apply the principle to understanding physical education and professional training. It can help people to get a clear understanding of the relation between physical education and professional training.The contradictions of physical education and professional training is caused by the conflict between their social functions and natural functions. As far as physical education is concerned, the conflict is expressed by the lack of ballance in time and space between the "fitness education" and "sport knowledge education". As to professional training such conflict is expressed by the "fight" of time and space between the "sport performance" and level of competence". They are the primary factors that lead to the unhealthy phenomena in sport and physical education.According to some old-fashioned theories, the thesis analyzes the conceptions of physical education and professional training. It finds that the primary activities of physical education and professional training are "teaching" and "training". On the basis of this knowledge the thesis attempts to employ the principle of complementarity to explain the phenomenon. Through the comparing of tenets and laws between physical education and normal educations, it proposes that the tenets and laws of physical education should be divided into two parts. One part of them is about the spcial tenets and laws, and the other is normal. The differences between them express the coexistent need of "teaching" and "training". The principle of complementarity can be used to prove theconclusion that is scientific and objective.The thesis continues to discuss the two contradictions of professional training. The first one is the contradiction between normal training and specialists' training. The author points out that they coexsit in trainging. The idea of item-group reflects the idea of connection between normal training and specialists' training. The second contradiction that has been discussed above is between the teaching and training in professional trainging. The thesis pointes out that there are some teaching activities in profession training according to the study of its history and present situation. But its exsitence is always ignored. It also can be proved by the principle of complementarity.At last, the thesis puts forward that it is necessary to establish a new relation between physical education and professional training in order to find a new way to solve some problems of them according to the characteristics from the perspective of principle of complementarity. The thesis infers that the new relation would help to push on the aids of each other. In other words, they can draw on the experiences of each other to make up their own deficiencies.
