Mankind has come into the 21st century and is welcoming the dawn of the knowledge-based economy era,which brings a great shock to our education and makes governments in the world reexamine their past and today's education and try to depict their education for the future. Now the reform of the elementary education curriculum is unanimously becoming the focus of all governments in the world. Given a broad overview of the trend of the reform and development in elementary education curriculum ,profound changes happened in the curriculum reform theory,policy,content and approach,etc. In this context,Guangxi must transform its curriculum in compulsory education phase in a big way so as to meet this global trend.After having an examine on the current situation of Guangxi compulsory education curriculum through answering questionnaires,collecting materials and interviewing,we find that Guangxi has achieved significant development in four aspects. First,some curricula with regional characteristics have been developed and put into practice because more policy-making rights in the national curriculum are transferred to the local educational authorities. Second,the curriculum construction which includes only disciplinary courses and obligatory courses for years has been changed preliminary,and comprehensive practice course and elective course have been added. Third,the obsolete and overlapping contents have been partly cut or removed,and informational technique education which reflects our times' knowledge characteristics has been absorbed in the curriculum system. Fourth,a great number of practicers and practicing modes that advocate advanced education theory and respect learners' subject state and attach importance to modern educational techniques have been springing up. These developments have undoubtly offered a necessary basis for the new coming curriculum reform in compulsory education. Meanwhile,we also find that there still remain some disadvantages in the current curriculum that can not be ignored'by no means. They included:the curriculum concepts and theory are outdated,the curriculum goal is single;the construction is unbalanced with lack of elasticity and options,the contents are separated from the learner's experience and their social life;moreover,some contents are so difficult that the teaching becomes teacher-centered,classroom-centered and textbook-centered,and thatlearners are passive in their learning-memorize mechanically,receive and drill passively;The evaluation is paid too much attention to different kinds of tests and the learners' marks.Based on the analysis of current situation of compulsory education and the social development characteristics in Guangxi by taking thereference from foreign countries and the advanced experience in other regions in China,new curriculum system of Guangxi compulsory education can be drawn out in five directions as followed:First,the traditional and obsolete curriculum concepts that curriculum is the process of learners' constructing their knowledge actively;that curriculum is not only the carrier of the specified knowledge system but the show of the learners'real life;that curriculum is the whole world' s prospect,not the mixture of separated disciplines and that curriculum is not only the medium of transferring the national culture. Second,to establish a new compulsory education target system. According to the nature and the functions of compulsory education,basic knowledge and basic methods must be stressed in order to cultivate and form learners' basic skills and ability . According to the findings from modern psychology research,the cultivation of learners sentiment,manners and values must be emphasized. In line with the needs of both the society and the learners,the personality of the learner must be valued and cultivated. From the angle of the learners' all-round development needs,moral education,physical education and mental health education should be paid attention to.
