With society entering the 21st century, biology starts a new and rapidly development century, in which science-technology and society will interact on each other strongly. In that, the position and the function of biology in social development require a large group of innovative talents springing up at the first line of biology. In this sense, high school biology teach, on the one hand, should have students acquire higher biological accomplishments, on the other hand, have some of them acquire firm biology base, who probably work in biology area in future, in their attitude, concepts, knowledge and capability. On the option of modern teach concept, it is required that students should strengthen practice on research knowledge and scientific methods, which train their capabilities of study independently and research on their own feet, and develop their potential energies of intelligence in the process of teach. The investigative teach roots in the fertile soil of teach method of elicitation and find, dissolves in the strong vitality teach activity, and it confirms itself to the trend of current teach reform, so we say that it is one of the most valid methods and ways which can be carried out the quality and innovative teach. Therefore, in the basic teach reform, there is importantly realize and deeply historical meaning. Investigative biology teach has inherited and developed the advanced teach and perspective of elicitation method, finding method and active class, and has formed its especial teach theory, teach principle, teach pattern and teach tactic.In this paper, we simply introduce the development history, the status quo and the characteristics of high school biology teach, as well as the characteristics of foreign biology teach and the experiences of investigative biology teach. We realize further its firm theory base through the research of pedagogy, psychology and physiology, and built its basic pattern, assessable system. At the same time, we also study its position and function, and reveal that it is a valid way for carrying out biology quality teach and training innovative talents. As a result, biology investigative teach is a new method for carrying out basic course reform, bettering teach structure and promoting the function of biology teach.
