The most important task in China's education is to reach compulsory education in the whole nation by the end of 20 century. As we know, reaching compulsory education is the key point of raising the qualification of the whole people in China. However, while we research nine years of compulsory education in most areas of China, six years of compulsory education has still not been reached in the remote western areas where minority nationalities live. To raise minority nationalities' qualification is the important part of raising the qualification of the whole Chinese people. Only by raising the minority nationalities' qualification, thus we can raise the qualification of the whole Chinese people indeed and we can realize the prosperity and stability of our country. Therefore, that we take on the study of reaching compulsory education in minority areas has very important realistic value. In order to adapt to this tendency , I choose "reaching compulsory education in Yi nationality of western areas of Sichuan province" as my studying object. And from cultural angle and the way of case study, by aiming at the deeper cause that lead to the obstacles in reaching compulsory education, thus we can found the right way that can be operated in educational practice.This essay is divided into three parts except the introduction.The introduction simply introduces the cause of choosing this subject, the theoretical base and the train of thought in writing.The first part mainly introduces the general survey of Butuo county, the history of reaching compulsory education of Butuo county, the achievements, experiences and lessons which achieves in the process of reaching compulsory education in Butuo county. The author thinks that the main experiences and lessons are to deepen the whole society's understanding on reaching compulsory education, increase the support of government, insist on setting up schools in various forms, push on the teaching form of dual language. Yi language and Han language and flexibly control the students' time in schools and so on.The second part mainly analyses today's problems of reaching compulsory education in Butuo county. The author thinks the main problems are as follows: People don't realize the importance of reaching compulsory education; The conditions of schools are very poor; It is difficult for the female Yi students to go to schools; The quality and quantity of teachers in Butuo county are both poor, The whole educational quality in Butuo county tends to be low etc. The author not only exposes these problems, but also from the cultural angle, analyses the deeper causes that cause these problems.The third part uses the experience of educational anthropology for reference, from the angle of enhancing endogenous change and exogenous change, tries to find a right countermeasure to solve the difficulties in the process of reaching compulsory education in the western nationality areas. The main measures are as follows: we should increase educational outlay of the national government and provincial government, use various methods to raise money, enhance the supports geared to the needs of nationality areas, carry out the policy of migration, change the concepts ofminority people, deepen their understanding on reaching compulsory education, make the education in the western areas strongly fit the situation of western areas, insist on setting up schools in various forms and enhance the dual language education etc.
