This paper aims at studying the influence of the western culture's spreading on china's modern school education system.The beginning of studying the problem dates back to ancient times when the Four Books and the Five classics had been adopted unchangeably as the content of education for nedly 2000 years in china's Feudal education system,which resulted in the isolated states of china's ancient feudal education with national cultrue as its center.Meanuhile the great difference of the education content between china and western countries shoulel also be made clear.It is not difficult for us to find,from the comparison between the evolution of china's ancient education system and the development of western education system,that the bogged-down education content of china's feudal society bred the inovation which was absolutely influenced by western culture. The long spreading couresc of western culture in china contributed to the influence of western culture's spreading on china's education system.The basic proposition of the study is.auording to the evolution of the education thoughts and the development of school system,to realize the influence of the western culture's spreading on china's education system. Before the establishment of the china's modern school system, the education content at the end of the Qing Dynasty was superficial and old and decayed.and the inovation was imperative.Being familiar with the west.the earliestly awaken intellectuals put toward the theory of "learning from the west and then coping with them" . The missionary school in China set up by the missionary also promoted the spreading of the western culture and acted unconsciously as the tools of the history. After the Opium war (1840-1842),the great western powers invaded china and the the westernization Momement began. The western language and arts also appeared in the education content. The westernization education became the basic modal of school education selected by the Qing government. But the re-formers differed from the westernization supporters on their understanding of westernization. They insisted on reform and advocated spreading the western culture and some social science in schooleducation content. The spreading of western culture in school education system and the push of the reform movement helped the set-up of china's first school system. In 1902-1904 school system.the western culture first led a leading role in amount,yet the Confucian classics still occupied a considerable proportion under the guide of the old thoughts.In 1912.the Nanging Temporary Govemmend promulgated the 1912-1913 school system and abolished Confucian courses. The western culture really occupied the leading role in education system. But china still imitated Japan in the school system and Germany in education system. In 1922,. with the promotion of the thought of being scientific and democratic in New culture Movement.the new school system came into being. This indicated that the influence of the western culture.spreading on China's modern school education had entered a conscious stage. By adopting the western advanced education, the modern education system which consisted of such elements as Morality, intelligence and physique,was formed. The influence of western culture's spreading on china's modern school education system was full of tortuous struggle and frustrations. The struggle between sliclzing to old and reforming never stopped. In the course of westernization.the new advanced education thoughts rised and amounts of advanced teaching ideas appearedin each stage.and they were the inner force of the inovation of china's modern school education.
