Reading is an essential basic ability in people's work,study and life.In order to implement the curriculum reform of basic education in China and improve the core Chinese quality of middle school students,students' reading ability should be cultivated.The compilation of junior high school Chinese "department edition" textbook has increased the requirements on the quantity and quality of students' reading in the basic education stage.However,after investigation,the actual teaching and student reading situation is not good.The new curriculum standard attaches great importance to the reading of students in the basic education stage and the dual needs of social and cultural construction.In the last century,there is a set of complete and effective development Program on the education thought and practice of "Junior Great Books Program" by Adler,an American educator of eternalism.On the basis of expounding the educational thoughts of the timeless classics,this paper mainly introduces Adler's educational thoughts of the classics and his reform practice of the "youth classics project" under the influence of his thoughts.A questionnaire survey was conducted in public schools,and several excellent teachers were interviewed on the reading series of famous books.The results of investigation and interview show that the current situation of students reading classics is worrying,and the reading teaching of classics in school lags behind.The main body of the article states the educational purpose,content and level reading theory of Adler's educational thoughts on classics,and the direction of the reading reform of Chinese classics under the guidance of his educational thoughts.It is expected that according to the requirements of the new curriculum standard and the textbook compiled by the department,the reading teaching function and significance of the classics can be truly brought into play in the teaching of the textbook compiled by the Chinese department in junior high school.The reform of reading teaching must conform to the compilation of textbooks and the trend of The Times.This paper is devoted to exploring the enlightenment of the development of American classics movement on reading teaching in China.Due to the cultural and social differences caused by the different national conditions of the two countries,we should learn from foreign experience and do a good job in the localization of reading classics.
