A Theory Structure For City Community Building In China

Since the word "community" was introduced into the research of sociology, many research schools appear and also lots of valuable thoughts have been brought out. But under the conditions of social changes in cities of china, the author regards that the former theories of community research are not suitable to be applied to the practice of city community building in china. Based on this, some new theories including theory of Social Capital, Civil Society and Governance are introduced into community research in this paper. The introduction and synthesis of the new theories can provide a structure powered by the community social capital, based on the civil society and led by the target of governance. To apply this structure to city community building in china, the precondition is to construct the harmony relations among the copartners, including the government, the residents, the community organizations, etc. And community building in china city will be a "step by step" process. In this process, the government will be a leader at first, then the community will give its response as it develops mature enough, and at last this process should lead the community building to reach the target of "self-government".
