With the reform of teaching materials and methods of language and literature, the proportion of literature works has reached more than 60% in Chinese teaching in middle school. Works reading teaching is good for development of students' personality. But, at present, Chinese teaching in middle school doesn't attach much importance to this teaching method. This thesis tries to discuss its value from three aspects.The first part explores the meaning of personality and the significance of improving it, clarifying that under the background of quality education and teaching method reform, developing students' personality should draw all teachers' attention.The second part analyzes the relation between works reading and personality development on the basis of the theory of Reception-Aesthetics and the intention of literature reading. Therefore, we can reach a conclusion that the process of reading is the process that reading subjects' personality get show, portrayal, enrichment and improvement.The third part expounds specifically how to obtain the goal about students' personality development hi reading teaching? On the view of middle school teaching practice, this thesis poses four proposals: First, respect students' self-understanding; Second, guide students to communicate with text; Third, develop students' aesthetic judgment and emotion; Fourth, construct open evaluation system.
