Japan is one of the earliest countries to realize the massification of higher education in the world. After the Second World War, higher education in Japan developed very quickly and enlarged widely. In 1963 the percentage of enrollment of higher education is 15. 4%, the massification of higher education realized. The higher education in Japan could rise abruptly, I think this could not separate from the recovery and development of economy, society and education itself. This dissertation belongs to regional study of comparative education. It analyzes and studies the basic theories, social backgrounds, development courses, experiences and problems of massification of higher education in Japan on the basis of comparative method, literature research method, element analysis method. Combined with the present massification and process of massification in China, I put forward some enlightenments and suggestions that will benefit Chinese massification of higher education.
