The term "Significant Others (SO)" refers to the specific people who have a significant influence upon an individual's socialization process. A student's SO are the specific persons who have a significant influence upon one or more aspects of the main facet of the student's socialization process. SO of the girl students of the kindergarten training schools (GSKTS) refer to those who have an interactive influence upon GSKTS, namely, the GSKTS's mother, classmates, friends of the same sex, father, teachers and friends of the opposite sex, all of whom have a different influence upon the different layers of the GSKTS's socialization process respectively. From an analysis of the depth, intimacy and frequency of the interaction between the GSKTS and their SO, we can classify the influence mechanism of the SO into six types: deep - intimate - medium frequent (from mother), deep - less intimate -medium frequent (from father), deep - less intimate -high frequent (from classmates), deep - intimate - medium frequent (from friends of the same sex), medium deep -least intimate - low frequent (from friends of the opposite sex), medium deep -alienated - medium frequent (from teachers). During the development of the GSKTS's moral character, their parents mainly have a far-reaching influence conceptually and cognitively while their associates play a significant role in their moral behavior. The extreme pressure from the competitive society turns out to be a cause for the SO to unconsciously transfer the pressure onto the GSKTS by paying undue attention to the GSKTS's study with an inappropriate method of education, which inevitably gives rise to the GSKTS's passivity in study. The present situation is far from satisfactory when it comes to the problem of the education of sex and sex role of the GSKTS. On the one hand, the GSKTS themselves don't have an essential knowledge and a correct concept of sex and their sex role in the society. On the other, their SO hold an evasive attitude towards the problem and their way of influence tends to induce the GSKTS's antagonistic psychology. Therefore, a proper education policy must be carried out so as to refresh the SO's concept so that they will resort to an appropriate approach to exert an active influence upon the GSKTS.This essay consists of 5 parts: 1) the SO as a significant mechanism of socialization; 2) a study of the influence of SO upon GSKTS; 3) the types and influence mechanism of the SO; 4) a comparison of the different influences of SO upon GSKTS; 5) conclusions and suggestions.
