Teachers' Action Research: The Platform To Develop Researcher-teachers

The rise and decline of a country is concerned with the education quality which is decided by the teachers' accomplishment. So the issue of the improvement of teachers' accomplishment plays decisive role. The development of the time calls for researcher-teachers. Facing the actual gaps between ideal and reality, the author endeavors to construct a platform to develop researcher-teachers in the thesis by inquiring into Teachers' Action Research which is popular in the western countries, so as to encourage more teachers to become researcher-teachers.This thesis is divided into three parts.In the first part, the author analyzes the signification of researcher-teachers, the claims of the times to teachers, the current status of teachers in China and the cause of formation. The implement of Quality-oriented Education and the Reformation of Elementary Education Curriculum as well as the teachers professional development require teachers to become researcher-teachers, whose main character is that research is the way of their life and work. However, presently most teachers in primary schools and middle schools lack reflection, co-operation and educationresearch, which is caused by various reasons. Due to the above-mentionedactual gaps between ideal and reality, Teachers' Action Research is put forward.On the basis of understanding of Action Research, Part Two explores the possible ways of solving this problem. The author follows the trail of Action Research and its significance, focusing on the Teachers' Action Research by analyzing its feasibility. Action Research, which originated from socialscience field and later applied to education science, advocates teachers' self-reflection and practice, peer co-operation and communication. Teachers' Action Research whose practical steps is: to find the problem; to analyze the problem; to form the plan; to put the plan into effect, to observe and gather data at the same time; to analyze the data and check the validity; then to revise the plan, go into the new research spiral, is regarded as an effective method to develop researcher-teachers.In the third part, the author tries to analyze the main points of researcher-teachers' growth, and probes the tactics of Teachers' Action Research in China and the points for attention. Through the strategies, such as reflective teaching, peer communication and co-operation, link and dialogue with experts, teachers can research in the action and grow in the research. To deepen Teachers' Action Research, we should: 1) change teachers' ideas; 2) improve teachers' researcher ability; 3) strengthen the management of education research; 4) construct the appropriate evaluation institution; 5) make school become a learning organization. In the process of Teachers' Action Research, teachers should properly handle the relationship with other research method, the relationship with normal education practices, the relationship with experts, leaders and colleagues. Hence their reflection will be strengthened, their research ability will be improved, and the atmosphere of co-operation will be formed. They will become researcher-teachers, which furthermore improves the quality of Chinese education.
